Nope. I was invited but I declined. Instead I think I will see if I can watch the lunar eclipse.

No Memorial invitation for us :)
by truthseekeriam inthis morning as my husband and i were backing out of our garage to head out to the farmers market a jw was walking up our walkway with his invitation.
he didn't see us and we didn't rocongnize him but a brother and sister we knew well actually looked our way.
we decided not to bother and went our way to enjoy a lovely morning picking out fresh fruit and vegetables knowing when we got home the invitation would be stuffed in our door.

Well, I just got mine. I came downstairs from a shower and had a missed call and a voicemail from 20 minutes earlier. It was an elder I really liked. He invited me to tomorrow’s memorial services. Mrs. Dazed said to just ignore it. I told her, “If I continue to ignore them, they will continue to bug me.”
So I decided to send a text. “I respectfully decline this invitation and any future invitations. Please do not contact me again. Thank you.”
Short and sweet. Hope they get it this time…
lol... just listened to it again... it was directed to just me. Not to the whole family. He didn't ask Mrs. Dazed?

Are JW'S "hated" in all the world? Or...are they considered IRRELEVANT?
by Terry inwathctower 90/1/1 p. 12 par.
8 not ashamed of the good news .
while it is true that jehovahs witnesses are hated and opposed in all the nations of the earth, this is in fulfillment of what was foretold to be an identifying mark of genuine worshipers of the one living and true god.

Hated… no. Irrelevant… you betcha. +Butt of many jokes.
Duvan- woah what? they count inactive and disfellowshipped people? are they trying to fudge the numbers so people will think they're more important than they actually are
Duvan- An elder told me the same thing over the phone. It was several months after leaving. I told him I no longer believe. I don’t want to be considered a JW. I then said, “what do you want from me? Do you want me to write a letter or something?” He said “that is up to you. You will still be considered a Jehovah’s Witness on the books.” He actually said “on the books”. He told me it would be up to me. I told him I would think about it. I later decided I wouldn’t play by their rules.
So yes, I am not surprised if Mrs. Dazed, myself and the 2 little ones are still some how counted among their ranks… “on the books”. Gotta love the cult mentality.

How long did you know TTATT while attending the meetings?
by Iamallcool ini did not know anything about ttatt while attending the meetings.. .
ttatt=the truth about the truth..

I started having doubts after being publicly reproved in 2011 for drunkenness. Then did research to reaffirm my faith in Jehovah. I now see that I was in the “apologist” faze for a couple months. Then after accepting TTATT, I left about 3-4 weeks later... cold turkey.
My wife followed about 13-14 months later. She told me after a year she never really believed that it was the “true” religion. She wanted to make sure it was not a faze I was going through before telling me and committing to leaving. It was a little tougher on her because she had a mom that was in the same hall.
Now her mom is out of state and everything is much easier for her. The elders call or come over once or twice a year to bug me. I ignore them. It’s a little harder for her. She works in a coffee shop where they frequent. She sees them and remains busy so as not to get cornered.
So far its working out. We don’t want to be DF’d or DA’d because we want to communicate with our immediate families. It would be less damaging if I was DF’d. Mrs. Dazed would take it a little harder if she were Df’d. We both agree not to give them any power over us by DA'ing.
Oldgoat- I enjoyed reading your experience. Thanks for sharing it.

Frazzled UBM - The reason why the high number of gun deaths in the US is not a bigger issue is because the victims are generally young black men - a marginalised section of society who the majority of the population don't care about.
I've not seen exact statistics on this but I believe it to be generally true. Gang related homicides result in numerous shooting deaths- (i dont care what color black, white or hispanic). When gangs kill each other off, you are right that I and the majority of people dont care. I have the fortunate luxury to choose where I live and I chose not to live near this blight on society. But in the off chance something like this comes to my neighborhood, I will do everything in my power to prevent me and my family from becoming victims. Gangs are becoming an increasing problem in and around Denver and sometimes I hear of problems with gang realted deaths in the city where I live.
We are going again in 2-3 weeks when my father-in-law (his grandpa) visits from Hawaii.

Is this new donation arrangement for real?
by nugget injust read a post on jwsurvey about the new donation arrangement.
congregations are to pledge a monthly amount to be sent to the society to fund the building of assembly halls and kingdom halls.
congregations who already have a loan from the society will no longer have to pay back the loan but the amount pledged should not be less than the current monthly repayments to the society.

If they want to look at the head of the house’s tax information, I hope this would wakeup my sister and brother-in-law. They make pretty good money. He’s a MS. I wonder how deep the sh*t would have to be before they wake up?

Space- You can't counter my argument so you attack my character.
That's exactly what you did in your first post.
I've noticed people who love guns typically don't have a reputation of being educated or posessing any type of intellect. You've pretty much confirmed that stereotype with this thread.
Jeff- thanks.
Lois - thank you for sharing your experiences.
Jemba - thank you.
I am off to work. I cant change anyone's mind and no one will be able to change mine. Most Americans have a love for their guns. Get over it and move on. Nothing about that will change anytime soon. Off to bring home the bacon.

What JW beliefs did you used to hate trying to defend?
by DuvanMuvan inas one of the jw "young ones" i was always expected to witness to my friends at school if i wanted to make god's heart glad or whatever but i didn't.
the closest i ever got was just explaining why we didn't celebrate christmasetc.
even then i was just reciting things i read in publications.. one topic i always tried to avoid talking about was birthdays.

Birthdays. It never made sense to me even when I would explain it.
